Bilingual Hardship Waiver, VAWA, and U-Visa Immigration Interviews in English and Spanish
&
Billingual Depth-Oriented Therapy in English and Spanish
We will confront, acknowledge, and integrate the many shadows you cast upon your world. In Jungian psychology, the shadow holds everything we've hidden from ourselves — and everything we have yet to become.
Sombra Psychotherapy
Therapy for individuals navigating identity, migration, and the emotional weight of building a life between cultures or life stages. If you grew up translating — language, culture, or yourself — this practice was built for you.
Not your typical therapy practice
Do you sense that parts of you are in conflict?
Sombra Psychotherapy was built for people who have always done the hard thing — who have crossed borders, built new identities, held their families together — and who are finally ready to turn that same courage inward. The practice offers two distinct but connected services: depth-oriented individual therapy for those navigating identity, immigration, and the inner life, and professional mental health evaluations for immigration cases (U-Visa and VAWA), conducted bilingually without the barrier of an interpreter.
You shouldn't have to translate yourself to be understood.
I offer therapy and immigration evaluations in both English and Spanish — not just linguistically, but culturally. There are experiences that live in one language, in one version of you, that don't have a clean translation. In our work together, you won't have to find one.
You are in the right therapeutic practice if —
You are outwardly capable, quietly unsettled. You think deeply, feel things strongly, and sense that there's more to who you are than your current life reflects. You may be an immigrant, a first-generation professional, or someone navigating the long aftermath of experiences that never fully had space to be processed.
You're not looking for coping strategies. You're looking for understanding of yourself, your patterns, and the parts of you in conflict with each other. You're ready to stop performing clarity you don't have, and to begin the slower, more honest work of turning inward.
Or perhaps you are an attorney, a social worker, or an individual navigating an immigration case and in need of a comprehensive, bilingual mental health evaluation — completed by a clinician who will make sure your story is heard with the precision and dignity your case requires.

Hi, I'm Alejandra Aschittino-Rodríguez — a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with six years of clinical experience working in both English and Spanish. I'm a first-generation immigrant from Guatemala, and it's from that place — of having built an identity between cultures, between languages, between versions of oneself — that this practice was born. I was a university professor, and I currently serve as President of the Minnesota Jungian Society and as a BBHT-approved supervisor. Philosophy and literature remain my closest companions in this work: they remind me that human suffering has always needed language, and that finding that language is, in itself, an act of healing.
Our Services
Individual Therapy
I support individuals navigating young adulthood, immigration-related experiences, identity exploration, and the lifelong process of self-discovery with online individual therapy. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply ready to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, therapy can be a valuable starting point for personal growth. I specialize in providing individual therapy for anxiety, depression, relationship stress, cultural assimilation stress, perfectionism, and life changes. Working collaboratively, we’ll explore how past and present experiences have shaped your current beliefs and emotional/behavioral patterns. After understanding the past, we will cultivate helpful, positive beliefs and patterns that lead to greater confidence, calmness, and authenticity.
This is depth therapy for people ready to understand themselves — not just cope with mental health symptoms. Let’s navigate the voyage of life together.
Immigration Evaluation
I provide comprehensive, professional mental health evaluations for immigration cases ( U-visas, Hardship Waiver, and VAWA). As a bilingual clinician, I conduct these interviews in Spanish or English, ensuring your story is accurately heard without the barrier of an interpreter. These assessments are thorough (typically 8–10 pages) and designed to support your legal case with clinical evidence. I complete reports within 5-7 business days of completing our interview process. Please let me know during our phone consult if you have any specific time constraints in your case. This evaluation can be done in person or online, whichever you prefer.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit http://www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
Late/Additional Revisions for Immigration Evaluations
I offer up to 2 “significant” revisions within 30 days of the report's release, and unlimited minor revisions within 60 days of the report's release. If requests for revisions fall outside these parameters, we charge additional fees in 15-minute increments.

What happens in a first session?
Our first session is called an intake, and it's less about "getting it right" and more about getting to know each other. I'll ask about what brought you in, a bit of your history, and what you're hoping to work on — but there's no pressure to have it all figured out. You don't need to arrive with a neat summary of your life. Many people come in feeling unsure of what to say, and that's completely okay. The first session is also a chance for you to get a feel for how I work and whether this feels like the right fit. By the end, we'll have a sense of where to begin and what our work together might look like.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you've found yourself reading this page, something in you is already asking that question — and that curiosity is worth paying attention to. Therapy isn't only for crisis moments. Many of the people I work with are functioning well on the outside but carrying something they haven't had space to fully look at: a pattern that keeps repeating, a feeling of being stuck, or a sense that there's more to who they are than their current life reflects. You don't need to be "sick enough" to deserve support. If you're someone who thinks deeply, feels things strongly, and wants to understand yourself better, therapy can be a meaningful space for that. The best way to find out if it's right for you is to start with a free 15-minute consultation — no commitment, just a conversation.
Also, you can download the free weekly workbook I created to determine if this type of work is what you are looking for. Find “A Week of Turning Inward” on the Resource page and read more about my therapy specialties by clicking the button below.
What happens during my Immigration Interview?
An immigration evaluation is a structured but conversational process — not an interrogation. My role is to listen carefully and document your experience in a way that supports your legal case.
Here's what to expect:
We'll begin with a phone or video consultation to ensure I'm the right provider for your situation and to answer any questions you have before we start. From there, the evaluation typically takes 4–8 hours and is conducted in Spanish or English—whichever feels most natural to you. No interpreter is needed. We will do this evaluation either online or in person, depending on your preference and availability.
During our time together, I'll ask about your personal history, your experiences, and how those experiences have affected you emotionally and psychologically. You don't need to perform or prove anything — you share your story in your own words, at your own pace. I am here to hear you, not judge you.
After our interview, I'll write a comprehensive clinical report — typically 8–10 pages — that translates your experience into the language immigration courts and attorneys need. You'll receive the completed report within 5–7 business days, and I offer up to two significant revisions within 30 days if needed.
Many clients feel nervous before this process. That's completely understandable — your case matters deeply, and so does being truly heard. My goal is to make this process as dignified and thorough as possible, so that your story is represented with the weight and care it deserves.
